Santa came! In Runners.

Kate is from Sydney, Australia, and fell in love with running in 2012 when she decided, for no particular reason that she can remember, to run a marathon. That one goal turned into a love affair with running that keeps her sane during the day, and fuels the blog at night.

Have you had a Christmas or Thanksgiving race? Nope, neither, unfortunately.
When do you know to take a step back? I am usually forced too by travel or work.
Are you a chocolate person? Yes I am African American. :)

Haha Liz! Travel is a wonderful step back :-)

  • Sarah

I just finished up my turkey trot and I’m so looking forward to our Christmas race on Dec 8! It is a night race so you run through all the neighborhoods lit up with their Christmas lights :) . It’s better than driving past them :) . The best part is we are running this race as a family and I have found that I simply live running with Danger. He is hilarious and distracts me so that I don’t even realize the race is over when we cross the finishline. Disappointingly, I will not be dressed as Santa, because I would melt!!!!

And as for chocolate, if I could live on it, I certainly would!!!

A night race sounds brilliant! I am so glad you’ve got Danger running with you :-D . Chocolate as fuel. Perfect.

  • Jenna

Oh my god I’m more than a chocolate person. I’m thinking that it’s in my blood or my veins just pump it! I only eat chocolate desserts bc I don’t like anything else!! Oh, with the exception of pumpkiny things! The Santa run looks super fun! I’m glad that your goal was enjoyment!! Love ya! Xo

    • Kate

Hook it to my veins! Amazing. Pumpkin is delicious. Is it possible to have pumpkin chocolate?

  • Lisa @ RunWiki

Some of those Santa’s just made me spit out me coffee… so funny. I read somewhere that the happiest people in the world dress up and run. I think they may be onto something.

Ha! I definitely think they’re on to something. Elf Santa with the tatts was perfect.

  • TorontoRunner

aaahhh love the Santa outfits!! A run full of Santa’s. How cute :D
Also, oh em gee – chocolate covered strawberries?? They are sooooo good!

I can really relate to pushing too hard and just doing too much at once. I love that you ran without a watch and brought it back to basics and just ran for pleasure.
    Have a happy Sunday love!

Thanks so much! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I am looking forward to catching up with your blog tonight. Why does time have to be so damn fast?!

  • Kat

I took a step back this week and it definitely helped me run ok today! baby steps after blasting my half! I have a holiday half in 2 weeks that I am dressing up for – you guys looked great! Haha that man-she elf is hilarious!

You earned a break! The elf was my favourite. Hands down!

  • Holly @ Running & Baking

I have not run in any themed holiday races this year, I skipped them altogether. I really love the idea of doing them, I think I just didn’t want to add another thing to my list. I am a huge chocoholic, it’s an addiction of mine! Those strawberries look so yummy!

It sounds like you have enough on your plate without a holiday run as well! Those strawberries were yummy :-D

  • Mindy @ Road Runner Girl

That race looks like sooo much fun! I’m debating on doing one just like that! Love all your pictures! Chocolate is weird for me…I’m allergic to milk chocolate but can eat chocolate favored things.

Totally worth it – and really not hard work! Oh no – allergic to chocolate?!

  • robyn

I just love the idea of the Santa Run – must have been hot though!!!! Yes, I am definitely a chocolate person – thats why I run:)

    • Kate

Oh, it was boiling – but so much fun.

  • Jenelle @ MummyLovesToRun

You look like the sweetest santa ever. I love the guy dressed as an elf?!?!! Crack up. I think this race totally suited where you are at with running now FUN!!!

I know its time to step back if its not FUN or if I am resentful of it or the time it takes up. I figure running will always be in my life in some way and will just move up and down the priority list depending on what other things are going on (or not going on as the case may be right now!).

So enjoy your demand-free and relaxed approach to running and keep finding AWESOME races like that cause they make for great pics :=)

Aww shucks. The elf guy was my favourite! And yes – it was perfect for my running mojo. I feel like I am getting back into where I want to be. I like the idea of letting it drift up and down the list, and letting life be around it.

  • Abby @ BackAtSquareZero

It is nice to run with a watch sometimes. What a fun run and your look too cute in your costume! Love it!

    Am I a chocolate person?
I’m still waiting on my frogs!

It is indeed, but I had a bit of a freak out with running, and I need some time without it. Sorry! Head over here and you can have all the frogs you want :-D

  • Danielle @ itsaharleyyylife

hahaha! those costumes are so much fun! I love the idea of a santa run! A little early though… they could’ve waited until December! (:

    • Kate

I know! I think it just gets so, so hot here that we have to do it as early as possible. On that day, it was already about 28 (I think that’s about 82 for you).

  • Laura

I give runners SO much credit. I HATE running. I’ll do any exercise I need to as long as it means I don’t need to run! =)

Haha! I used to feel that way too. Stick to your gus though – do what you love!

  • Molly @ Just Your Average Athlete

Chocolate is basically what makes my world go round. Also, can you send me that santa outfit? It’s AWESOME and I may steal it to and find a race to run, specifically so I can wear it.

It was pretty light – easy to run in. I love the idea of you just wearing it out on your ordinary run! (Mental image)
