Adventure Racing and a Time to Celebrate

Kate is from Sydney, Australia, and fell in love with running in 2012 when she decided, for no particular reason that she can remember, to run a marathon. That one goal turned into a love affair with running that keeps her sane during the day, and fuels the blog at night.

Adventure racing sounds like sooooo much fun… but I would probably end up getting distracted and do some shopping along the way!! One day I want to do a Spartan or Warrior or some kind of cool mud/obstacle fun thing.

Hope that ITB and the shin splints ease up quickly but enjoy your rest and x-training in the mean time :=)

It would be fun…but it’s not like running huh?! Adventuring wasn’t quite the same thrill ;-) /

LOL! you’re too much! i haven’t done an adventure run, but i sure do LOVE adventure!! i eat every single seafood known to man; shrimp, crab, lobster, fish of any kind, squid, oysters, mussels. i dont really care what it is, i eat it!! my favorite of all is probably salmon though. or my friend makes mussels with stuff like beer, garlic, and othe spices, and those are amazing!! so sorry about all of you body pains! heal up quickly! love you! (oh, btw, i hate hard gingerbread men. naaaastiest things ever!! my mom has a recipe where she makes them home made, though and they’re super soft and yummy!!

    • Kate

Haha! You share my love of seafood – fantastic :-D . Salmon is the BEST.

  • Lisa @ RunWiki

I’ve had several friends try adventure racing; I’ve had too many running races on the calendar to try one, sounds like so much fun!

You have a pretty hectic racing life! I promise, adventure racing isn’t as good.

  • Abby @ BackAtSquareZero

A friend and I did a dash around downtown where you could only walk/run and had to use crazy clues to get from place to place last year . It was so fun!
I cannot wait for gingerbread men on Thursday .

    • Kate

Thanks Jenny! The chocolate. Oh my yum!

  • TorontoRunner

oooh, never done an adventure run before, that sounds like great fun!
I love that you celebrated with some seafood – I love seafood! I always struggle with knowing what to order at restaurants, so I drag friends that are highly educated in that department! haha!

I have to admit I do the dame thing with fish. I just know I like prawns in all forms!

  • Cait the Arty Runnerchick

epic is right!!! okay, so many things: 1) i LOVE shrimp…like seriously, i could spoon with them in my bed, i love them! 2) tho i’m saying i’m drooling over that slab of chocolate!! 3) i’m jealous, as i wish i coulda been a part of ur team :(

from there, i’m SO sorry that dang itb and shin splint pain has reared its head. DO be a good girl and do lots of stretching and foam rolling, icing, and the beauty that is IB.

take care girlie and keep having so much fun over there!

    • Kate

You and I as a team? We would have been sooooooooo lost. Superwoman did all the map work! It’s ok – my fault for three days of running and chucking on my cross-trainers on Saturday – I didn’t realise it would be so run heavy. :-)

  • robyn Connacher

That adventure race looks like fun!! I’ve never tried one but there’s always a first time:)
Sounds like you had a hectic weekend, the silly season has certainly started!

I love that feeling before Christmas begins! And adventure racing – so worth a try.

  • Michelle

Oh my goodness. Look at that chocolate! That’s like a HUGE slab! I hope you didn’t finish that all by yourself. heehee

    • Kate

Not yet – but I’m trying to :-) . Thanks Michelle!

  • LIz

You are having way to much fun eating what you want. I miss American food and homemade cookies. Sorry for the rant. No Christmas parties yet. :( Did I say I love Christmas time. :)

    • Kate

Oh my yes! And rant is good!

  • the camping trail

My partner and I have signed up to do an adventure race in Feb. We have just bought two new mountain bikes and borrowed kayaks off of a friend. I am starting to wonder what I have let myself in for!

The thing is I like talking about it and visualizing myself at the finish line but when it comes down to it I am actually not sure I can do it. I am not naturally very athletic but feel because I have talked about it so much and invested in it, we have to go through with it. People keep telling me its addictive……. I think they must be weird!

That’s exciting – it might be scary, but remember that you can go as slowly as you want to. Just make the finish line your goal and you’ll be fine. We are weird – want to be weird with us? ;-) . I’m barracking for you!
